What is Sustainable Building Technologies?
Structural insulated panels (SIPs)
SIPs are one of the most airtight and well-insulated building systems available, allowing for better control over indoor environmental conditions. Reduced energy consumption for heating and cooling throughout building life is SIPs' most substantial contribution to preserving the environment.
Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme
The Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) provides reliable energy performance ratings for new homes and major renovations.
Driven by leading CSIRO science, the scheme is helping build more energy efficient, resilient and comfortable homes for the future.
Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT)
CLT is an engineered wood product consisting of layers of kiln-dried dimension lumber (usually three, five, seven or nine) oriented at right angles to one another and then glued to form structural panels. By gluing layers of wood at right angles, the panel delivers excellent structural rigidity in both directions.
National Australian Built Environment Rating System
The National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) provides simple, reliable and comparable sustainability measurement across commercial and apartment buildings. It overlaps with residential energy efficiency through its rating of residential aged care, retirement living and apartment buildings.
Passive Houses
Passive Houses are a strategic design approach to ensure long-term sustainability that significantly lowers energy consumption, while also ensuring that dwellings meet the updated requirements of the National Construction Code (NCC) 2022.
Green Star Certification
Green Star is a certification program developed by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) to assess and recognise sustainable building practices. It is a voluntary rating system that evaluates the environmental and sustainability performance of buildings and communities in Australia.
